Winemaker's Notes:

Winemaker's Notes Crisp, vivid notes of citrus and melon weave through our 1999 Fumé Blanc. Elusive floral and herb nuances, reminiscent of narcissus and fresh anise, add complexity. The wine has a beautiful balance of crispness, from the cool vintage, and a rich texture from gentle hand stirring throughout sur lie barrel aging. Refreshing and versatile, our Fumé Blanc can accompany both delicate and spicy foods. Fermentation & Aging Barrel-fermentation and sur lie aging in French oak barrel enhanced the elegant, round texture and lingering, spicy finish of our Fumé Blanc. We gently pressed the grapes as whole clusters and immediately began fermentation to capture the fresh, vibrant fruit character. For increased complexity, we fermented over 85% of the juice in 60-gallon French oak barrels with the balance in stainless steel tanks. We aged the wine sur lie (on the yeast lees) during six months in small French oak barrels to develop creaminess and integrate the flavors of the wine. To add round, melon notes to the crisp Sauvignon Blanc flavors, we blended in 20% Semillon. The wine was then bottled without filtration to retain its full flavor intensity and complexity. Region/Origin: Napa Valley Residual Sugar: Dry (0.103%) Total Acid: 0.70 % Alcohol: 12.5% by volume Final pH: 3.18 Blend: 80% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon
