Robert Mondavi Winery Fumé Blanc Napa Valley 2007
91 points and an Editors' Choice from the Wine Enthusiast: `Always one of Napa's best Fum (Sauvignon) Blancs Mondavi's basic bottling is so good it tastes like it has some grapes from the famed Tokalon Vineyard. It's a rich pure wine brimming with gooseberry fig green melon and white pepper flavors accented with zesty acidity. Great food wine and a bargain at this price.` And according to Wine Spectator: `Zingy and refreshing offering a light-bodied mouthwatering version of lemon-lime pear quince mineral slate and herb flavors that are focused and intense. Drink now.`
Editorial Reviews for Robert Mondavi Winery Fumé Blanc Napa Valley
Nice typical warm climate Sauvignon Blanc aromas of ripe fruit, with notes of peach, melon and citrus in a rather intense, bright register. On the palate this adds a nice herbal, green fruit top note that adds some contrast to the rich fruit. The acidity is very bright , keeping this lighter weight wine nice and vibrant and helping to drive the finish, which shows a nice citrus final. 87pts
This is subtle smoky with some geranium stem notes and slightly woodsy tones under a layer of ripe, limy fruit. In the mouth this is rich and perfumed with a very smooth texture that makes it immediately attractive The fruits tend to the tropical with notes of pineapple, citrus and melon, though there are intriguing notes of white peach and green tomato adding depth and complexity. This finishes with a minor mineral flourish and lovely inner mouth perfumes of fresh herbs. 90pts

Classy fume blanc, barrel-aged for richness. Aromas of creamy citrus and melon with some tarragon and herbal notes. Fresh citrus and orchard fruits are in nice balance with the oaks, which is subtle and lends depth and complexity to the wine. Great with smoked fish.
This wine was courtesy of a great new value from my store down from 15.99 to 9.98, and was excited to give it a go. It recieved a 91 pt rating. I really enjoyed this wine, it was very unique in the strong acidity it posessed and bright fruit while combined still with a touch of nice cream and roundness from the oak touched. Lemon and lime with plenty of grapefruit. I overall did enjoy the smoothness and creaminess of this wine, but you have to be wanting to see this when you pick it up as a sauvignon blanc. I am one who enjoys oak on my chards so this was welcome for the touch it gave. One I think would be a great food friendly wine and even very great for drinking on its own. And at under 10 bucks an absolute homerun, and one I will surely recommend to others and try again.
It tasted bland.

Here's the latest Mondavi Fumé in the frosted bottle. As always, it's super-dry and grassy, with kiwi, gooseberry, lemon and lime flavors. Oak barrels and sur lie aging have added rich textural complexities. What a sophisticated, polished wine.
Shows that distinctive Mondavi Fumé quality of extreme dryness, tart acids and gooseberry and spiced melon flavors, in addition to the usual citrus. In fact, there are similarities with Mondavi's famed To Kalon bottling, which vineyard contributed 20 percent of the grapes to the blend. It's a very good and elegant wine.
Vibrant and fragrant, with excellent intensity to the passion fruit, grapefruit, fig and green apple flavors that pick up subtle grassiness and tangy citrus acidity lingering through the finish, where it picks up a smoky note. Drink now through 2005.
Here's a crisp, bone-dry wine of tart acidity with aromas and flavors of lemons and grapefruits. The hard mineral quality is softened by barrel fermentation and lees aging, which contribute round, creamy notes. The lemony theme reemerges on the finish.
Intense and tangy, with mandarin orange, spice and herbal notes. The flavors take on candied citrus peel nuances. Drink now.
A very crisp style, with grapefruit, lemon and tart nectarine overtones carrying through the finish. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
Very funky and confounding at first, but then it opens to reveal smoke, stone fruit and mineral aromas. The mouth is quite spicy, with green herbs accenting citrus and mineral. The tangy lemon finish has a chalky grip to it, which only adds to the overall complexity of this unique Napa white.
