Editorial Reviews for Robert Mondavi Winery Chardonnay Carneros Unfiltered
Young notes on the nose recall coffee cream with a buttery edge over jammy red fruits with hints of herb, leather and a touch of medicinal, cola syrup. On the palater this is balanced with prominent acidity and emerging floral inner mouth perfume. It’s a bit tight on the mid-palate with good extract and a chewy feel, yet this is not particularly rich feeling. There’s a bit of vanilla that peaks out on the moderate finish, which is balanced by notes of chocolate, tobacco and cassis fruit. This may very well improve with age as almost every Mondavi Reserve has, but I have some doubts about where this is headed. 88pts

This is one of the most drinkable cabs I have had to date. Tastes of plums and dark cherry combine with spice to form a smooth and powerful finish. The oak is there, but only adds another dimension and is not an overwhelming presence. Unlike other cabs that I've had, this is not overpowering nor does it leave a persistent and unpleasant aftertaste.
this wine suffers from an identity crisis. Who am I? Why was I put here? to confuse reviewers? to taste like an overworked nightmare? Drink it very cold to hide all the flaws. Perhaps it is over the hill?
The nose is fresh, ripe blackberry and Devonshire cream - a scent sustained as taste upon entry with Columbian coffee and a pinch of wildflower honey. The finish is long and satisfying, with excellent depth. Well made and now reaching maturity. Tasted at the 2010 Vancouver International Wine Festival.
Very nice classic napa cab perfume nose of dark berries, plum, & cassis. On the mid-palate it still feels very young, and not yet ready to express itself. Medium bodied, percolating and dry persistent finish. Cannot recommend at the price, but for those who have inventory i'd be holding for a couple of years at least.
Lots of crisp apple, its nice and acidic - surprisingly so for a chardonnay. There's some fresh oak in the nose and a lot of it on the back end, but this isnt a buttery wine. Some spice on the finish. Its decent, good value really.

Rating: 90/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Although we do have a small quibble with this wine's undisguised bias to ripeness and the slight heat that necessarily comes with the style, we are so taken with its richness and depth that its sins are not hard to forgive. Rife with dark cherries, sweet plums, cocoa and sweet cream, it is both full and refined at one and the same time and shows a nice sense layering even if young. Yes, it warms up a bit at the end, but its fruit stays the course, and, while dried by a bit of last-minute tannins, it needs no more then three or four years to round into fine shape.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.
Good deep ruby-red. Wild blueberry, coffee and menthol on the nose. Deeper and chewier than the Stags Leap bottling, with dense, concentrated flavors of cassis and chocolate. Finishes with substantial but fine-grained tannins and lingering flavors of crushed currant and chocolatey oak.
Good full ruby-red. Blackcurrant, graphite and nutty oak on the rather reticent nose. Broader but less sweet than the SLD version; less high-pitched and a bit more muscular in style. There's plenty of power and fullness here, but today the tannins are a bit obvious. It's not the first time that the Stag's Leap bottling has appeared to be more successful in a cooler vintage.
A classy wine that's rich and intense, with a concentrated mix of mineral, currant, blackberry, dusty herb and cedary oak flavors. Though deep and well-structured, this maintains a sense of elegance and grace, making it a good choice for near- and mid-term cellaring. Best from 2008 through 2014.
Medium ruby-red. Currant, tobacco and menthol on the nose: classic Oakville cabernet. Then broad, lush and sweet, with very ripe flavors of plum, currant, chocolate and tobacco nicely lifted by minerality. Finishes broad, with huge but ripe tannins and noteworthy length. I find this fresher and less extreme than the Stag's Leap bottling.
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville reveals more licorice, spice, box, cedar, black cherries, and black currants in its complex, moderately intense aromatics. Full-bodied with outstanding concentration and moderate tannin, it displays the potential to improve for a decade, and last for 15-20 years thereafter.
Winemaker's Notes:
89 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): Pale yellow. Subtle nose hints at pear. Juicy and firm on the palate, in fact rather backward for this wine at this stage. Good intensity to the flavors of pear, citrus peel and spices. The fresh finish shows good structure and grip. (Dec 2008)
Tasting Notes:
Hints of bay leaf, forest floor and cedar. Fleshy blueberry and blackberry flavors lay atop a skeleton of well-structured tannins. A silky wine that envelops the mouth and ends with a lengthy finish. Aromas of ripe wild berries carry hints of bay leaf, forest floor and cedar. Fleshy blueberry and blackberry flavors lay atop a skeleton of well-structured tannins. A silky wine that envelops the mouth and ends with a lengthy finish
