Food Pairings for Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Pure Stags Leap. The color shows dark rich velvety crimson. The nose shows smokey cassis and dark fruits. The palate blossoms with bramble, extra dark blackberry, an aristocratic cassis, currant, French vanilla, tar and cocoa. The acid level is pure Mondavi, and the tannins are ironed out and all in a row....smooth. Fantastic mouthfeel....This is one cool customer. Some sweetness is present but not in a negative way. A smokiness that adds interest and a purity make this wine sing. The finish is long and precise. No green as mentioned elsewhere. A great effort indeed.
This has been a perennial favorite of mine. This vintage (my first taste) is no dissapointment. Medium dark color. The nose reveals some sweet dark red fruit. The palate has a bountiful lushness of fruits; deep dark currant, dark black cherry, some tar and tobacco. The tannins are amazingly resolved, but in the usual style, the acid level is a notch above to make it the "Mondavi food friendly wine" the founder has strived for. This multi-dimensional wine shows breed not common in its price range, hence why I love it year to year (in good years only). A super long finish which is as smooth as Huggy Bear. I am liking this alot. I can comment on a oak level a bit high which dries the palate a bit, but this should dissapate over time. I will try another one in 6 months.
God color. The nose has great cassis and blackberries. The palate shows a good balance of red & black fruits: blackberry, cassis, plums with some kirsch royal. A decent mouthfeel and structure holds this nicely. Its a big fat and juicy style of Cabernet that some from on, but its quite pleasant and enjoyable. Not a fruit bomb in an form. For $4.50 per half bottle it's gotta be one of the screaming deals of the year. For a night where a 750ml is too much and the vacuvin just won't do.
Decanted for 30 minutes. This wine is totally closed down. It is in the same phase that the 2001 Oakville was a year ago. Unfocused fruit, chalky and unbalanced. I would hold off opening any of these until next summer.
Very nice wine! I'm not a big fan of Red's but I became an instant fan of this wine. Very smooth and great flavors.

Pure, rich and concentrated, this bold, graceful wine offers a deep core of earthy currant, blackberry and plum, with hints of herb, mocha and black licorice, giving it uncommon complexity and depth. Ends with firm tannins and a long, persistent finish. Best from 2010 through 2017.
Deep, bright ruby. Very ripe, nuanced nose and palate offer cassis, minerals, graphite and licorice, plus a complicating note of tarry oak. Sweet, dense and rich, with classic Oakville cabernet flavors; strongly mineral- and soil-driven. Offers a lovely combination of fat, chewiness and sheer power. Finish with a mouthful of sweet tannins and excellent structure for a graceful evolution in bottle. This has turned out very well and should ultimately surpass the 2006.
Seductive and stylish up front, with pretty, supple, coffee, currant, anise and sage notes, but you keep hoping for a little more focus. Finishes with a thick, chewy wall of dry tannins. Best from 2002 through 2008.
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers a beautiful perfume of violets, black currants, and subtle oak, lead pencil shavings, and spice characteristics. This full-bodied, creamy textured Cabernet possesses superb concentration, lovely purity, and a multilayered mouthfeel. It should drink well for two decades or more.
Not up to the usual standards for this wine, and it has nothing to do with the new ownership. Tastes better than it smells, with rich, creamy blackberry, wild berry, anise and a dusty sage and cedar edge on the finish. Best of two bottles. Drink now throu
A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, which mostly comes from To-Kalon, has a relatively small production in this vintage (7,500 cases). The wine has a dense purple color and a wonderful, sweet, almost St.-Julien like nose of licorice, red and black currants, cedar, and spice. Medium to full-bodied, elegant, but authoritatively flavored, this wine is still young, rich, and very fine.
Good full ruby. Explosive aromas of blackberry, blueberry, minerals and tobacco. Deep, brooding cabernet with terrific sweetness of fruit and depth. Complicating mineral and tobacco notes. Finishes with huge tannins that avoid hardness. Offers very strong potential, but this is an infant today.
