Intense and dark on the nose with black olive and heb tones backing up the black, sweet, chunky black cassisy fruit. There are still touches of oak and even a hint or eraser in an herbal sort of way that grows into a blond cigar box note. Big and chunky in the mouth with fine structure combining ripe tannins and good acidity. Fleshy on the midpalate but just a bit loose on the backend with flavors that lack intensity this none-the-less offers up some nice, pure, dark fruit. A bit simple but still an attractive glass. 87pts

Clearly on the downside, with oxidized flavors, it can still be enjoyed--just decant prior to drinking. Gives hints of dried cherry and plum, dashes of anise and sage. Dark, ripe and flavorful, with a complex array of mature dried cherry, plum, anise and cedar notes. Shows a measure of restraint and finesse and finishes with an aftertaste that echoes its mature but complex flavors.--1978 California Cabernet Retrosp... Wine Spectator. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 1978 Mondavi, Robert Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 3000ml
