What to Expect

Merlot has gotten a bad rap as of late but there is no denying the wine's appeal. Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and nuanced hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure. Its velvety texture makes Merlot instantly appealing and an obvious alternative to similar, more tannic Bordeaux varieties.

• Hand-harvested in cool morning hours
• Fermented at 88ºF in stainless steel tanks
• 21 days maceration (skin contact) to soften tannins
• In-barrel malolactic fermentation
• 14 months aging in medium-toast French oak barrels (15% new)

Tasting Notes:
Full-throated black-fruit flavors of blueberry, blackberry and dark plum. Fine-grained tannins provide a velvety mouthfeel. Boldly delicious from start to finish.

We sourced our Robert Mondavi Private Selection 2001 Merlot from grapes grown in California's foggy Central Coast appellation. The long, slow ripening of these Coastal grapes gives the wine bright berry, plum, rose and spice character, with a silky texture and vibrant balance. The fruity style of our Merlot is versatile in food pairings; try it with Parmesan Risotto and Spring Vegetables or Grilled Lamb Brochettes with Rosemary. 97% Merlot, 3% other red varieties 13.3% alcohol by volume

The wine's multi-dimensional flavors come from grapes grown in distinctly different terroirs of Napa Valley, including the Carneros, Stags Leap and Oakville districts. Traditional techniques, including native yeasts, extended maceration, aging in French oak barrels and bottling without filtration, enhanced the wine's complexity.
