What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

Winemaking:
• Hand-harvested in cool morning hours
• Whole-cluster pressed to retain maximum fruitiness and delicacy
• 80% barrel-fermented (16% new oak), remainder in stainless steel tanks
• Partial malolactic fermentation to fine tune acids and textural balance
• Nearly 6 months aging sur lie in French oak barrels (16% new oak)

Mild first note and tasty acid remain to after, but the body is kind of weak.

The 2005 Robert Mondavi Winery Chardonnay is a fresh, youthful wine, with lively acidity and abundant fruit. Aromas of zesty citrus, green apple and tropical coconut are enhanced by the subtle use of oak. Ripe layers of fruit flavors unfold in the glass, with citrus and green apple leading to pear and pineapple. In the background, smoky oak deepens into creme brulee. What's so nice about this wine is that it has full-throttle Chard personality while keeping everything so balanced that it's also a versatile food wine. You can't say that about a lot of Chardonnays. Wine Enthusiast ReviewWhats so nice about this wine is that it has full-throttle Chard personality while keeping everything so balanced that its also a versatile food wine. You cant say that about a lot of Chardonnays. Mainly its the acidity, but also the complex, subtle interplay of fruit and oak. A very nice job.Wine Tasting NotesFresh and youthful with lively acidity and abundant fruit. Aromas of zesty citrus and green apple mingle with a hint of coconut and subtle oak. Richly layered flavors unfold in the mouth: lemon, green apple, pear, pineapple and crme brulee.
