The Robert Mondavi Winery was founded in 1966 after a family split with the Charles Krug Winery, which had been founded by Robert’s father.  After heading out on his own, Robert settled on land in Napa valley, and in particular the famed To Kalon Vineyard in the Rutherford district. The original plot in To Kalon Vineyard was only 12 acres, but today there are 450 acres under vine. The Robert Mondavi Winery also includes the Wappo Hill Vineyard, which is a 400 acre plot in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. Within a year of its inception, the Robert Mondavi Winery proved to be a true pioneer, not only with the establishment of his winery but also by introducing and popularizing the use of French oak barrels for wine, European wine techniques, and the bottling of varietal wines. Robert Mondavi Winery only uses French Oak barrels for storing wine, and his influence and success led to the practice’s prevalence. Among Mondavi’s greatest successes one would have to count the creation of the Fume Blanc moniker for Sauvignon Blanc as well as the introduction of his benchmark Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet. Today Robert Mondavi’s legacy is carried on under the watchful eye of his wife who works with the current winemakers Genevieve Janssens, Gustavo Gonzalez, and Richard Arnold to ensure that today’s Robert Mondavi wines deliver the elegance, appeal, and character that Robert had intended. I'm by no means a wine expert, but when I sampled the Moscato d'Oro at the Mondavi winery last weekend, I *loved* the way this one tasted. I'd really like to break out of the fruity sweet wine category and try something new, but I haven't been able to find any whites or reds that I like. Any suggestions for a newbie? I need help!

This is a wonderful desert wine, soft, full and elegant the light peach hints are just an excellent compliment to a desert of assorted fruit along with a cake/ cookie of substance! One of my favorites. Years back you could not get this production unless you were actually buying it in the state of CA.

Sweet, fruity with a hint of pear, viscous texture yet sparkling at the same time... I would have given it 4 stars, but I have tried 3 bottles - two were 2007 vintage and one was 2008. The first was AMAZING, the second was a bit sour (relative to the first bottle I tried), and the third was okay. I have noticed an inconsistency in taste in other Moscato brands as well, but for the price and volume, it is a tad expensive to hope for a good batch.

This was a great Mondavi white wine. I enjoyed this with a little bit of mild cheese and dessert. The price was well worth it in my budget range.

I first tasted this at the Modavi winery in Napa. It's a delicious summer dessert wine. Fabulous chilled in the freezer or poured over peaches!

Still with some spritz, this is a sweet, but not too sweet, clean and vibrant wine. with rich flavors of apricots and vanilla. The effervescence should disappear in time.

A sweet pretty wine with lip-smacking flavors of ripe, sweet oranges, apricots and cherries, with a luscious edge of smoke, vanilla and cinnamon. Tastes quite sweet, with a crisp backbone of steely acidity.

Intensely fruity and floral, yet light as air on the palate, the sweetness of the Moscato d'Oro is impeccably balanced by crisp, mouthwatering acidity. This elegant expression of orange blossom, white peach, fresh apricot and rose petal is interwoven with an unmistakable touch of honey. The clean, citrusy finish is enlivened by a soft, subtle tingle of effervescence. - Winery ** SOLD OUT **

As I stated earlier, Mondavi has launched an Italian varietal campaign, with good rather that sublime results. It has produced an aromatic, intense, moderately sweet yet crisp and beautifully constructed 1995 Moscato d'Oro... Mondavi's answer to the gorgeous Moscatos of Piedmont, Italy. It is a lovely, rich wine that should be over the next 1-2 years.

Captivating aromas of lime, mint and spring flowers, with a hint of oyster shell. Juicy and lively in the mouth, with bright grapefruit and floral flavors. Comes across as much less sweet than its 100 grams of residual sugar would suggest, thanks to bright acidity and citrus peel notes. This was served to me as partly frozen slush, which is the way Robert Mondavi enjoys this extremely refreshing wine.
