Winemakers Notes
Aromas of ripe dark fruits—black plum and jammy black cherry—merge with notes of spice, herbs and subtle oak.
The wine is at once fleshy, focused and firm. Fresh black fruit flavors overlay fine-grained tannins, and the long, smooth finish ends with a hint of tarragon. Deliciously approachable and richly satisfying.
Editorial Reviews
Rating: 83/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 04/09. A soft red with flavors of baked raspberries balanced by bitter orange acidity, this is ready for burgers.
Vintage Notes
The 2007 vintage was an excellent one for Pinot Noir. Responding to a cold, dry winter and scant spring rains (rainfall in northern California was 40%–50% lower than average in 2007), vine vigor was minimized from the outset and the vines didn’t produce too much foliage. Spring temperatures were warm, and the growing season started out fast with early bloom and fruit set. Then the weather cooled and mild temperatures prevailed throughout summer and into August. Enjoying ideal conditions of sunny days and foggy evenings, the grapes ripened slowly and evenly. We began picking fruit for this Pinot Noir on September 6 and finished September 11. Because of the cold, dry winter, 2007 crop levels were slightly lower than usual, but thanks to the mild summer weather, quality was consistently excellent. Grapes: (average) 26.4º Brix with 0.70% initial acid and 3.35 pH
Tasting Notes
Ruby red in color, this wine has aromas and flavors of wild plum, black cherry and blueberries. Layers of sweet fruit mingle with a savory spiciness on the mid-palate and a hint of minerality for additional complexity. Beautifully balanced with fresh, velvety tannins, the wine culminates with a persistent finish. A Pinot Noir with great verve and vivacity—ripe, concentrated and seamlessly mouthfilling.

This is the most fabulous wine that I have ever tasted! Wonderful aroma paired with wonderful flavor! I give this 5 wine glasses!!!!
This has been a long time favorite of ours. I can appreciate a bargain when I taste it and this one continues to please!
I just picked this one up at Trader Joes and it is bar none, the best $8.50 bottle of Pinot I've ever tasted. I'm a committed fan of Joes 2-buck Chuck Sharaz, and a decades-devoted non-snob. RM has hit a home run with this one!! Fantastic wine.
Lots of cherry and some earthiness in the aromas. More depth to the cherries in the midpalate, which turns very much in the direction of black cherry. Some creaminess and chocolate notes in the aftertaste, along with baking spice. Not the silky texture I associate with Pinot Noir, but lots of grip in the midpalate for a wine at this price point. The texture improves with air. Hard to argue with at $11.
Good bright, dark red. Red berries and flowers on the nose, with a high-toned suggestion of strawberry syrup. Sweet and fruity but a bit simple, with strawberry and redcurrant dominating; some hints of spicy oak. A tad dry on the back but probably best for drinking over the next three or four years.
A medium-weight style, displaying simple, delicate strawberry, plum and cherry flavors that are pure and focused. Successful in presenting the grape in a delicate and persistent manner. Drink now through 2014.
Good deep, bright red. Aromas of cherry, underbrush and spicy oak. Broad and pliant but light on its feet, with sweet red fruit flavors perked up by flowers and spices. In a distinctly juicy style; not especially long but the tannins are fine. I like the touch of whole clusters here.
Good full red. Pretty, floral aromas of raspberry and strawberry. Round and sweet, with a slightly edgy sweet/sour character to the varietally accurate red berry flavors. A bit less sappy and convincing than the 2005 release was at a similar stage, but this is round and persistent, with fine-grained tannins.
