Reviews

Rating: 3/5 - As reviewed by Decanter Confected black fruit, minty and sweet. Plenty of creamy oak characteristics. Some tannins on the mid palate with hints of tobacco and pencil shavings. Good concentrated wine with length and mouth-washing acidity.

wonderful bottle - definitely time to drink if you have some... tobacco and chocolate overtones on a bordeaux -esque california cabernet. I was expecting more tanins - - they have definitely mellowed. Had with a filet which was a perfect match since it was so lean.

Jancis
Robinson

Rating: 16/20 - As reviewed by Jancis Robinson Full, round, ripe but no great personality and very obvious tannins on the finish. This is the heavily trumpeted unfiltered, unfined bottling but it seems no more impressive to me than the regular one. In fact the tannins are more aggressive.

WA 92 (12/2002) As for the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, this wine seems more subdued than it did last year and might be going through a relatively closed stage. As it sat in the glass, it took on an almost Ducru-Beaucaillou or Leoville-Las Cases St.-Julien-like character, with notes of minerals, cedar wood, black currants, tobacco, and spice. This is a rich, dark ruby/purple-colored wine with very complex aromatics, medium to full body, tight structure and plenty of tannin in the finish. There are 20,000 cases. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025.
