What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

Layers of blackberry cassis mineral violet and black licorice character framed by solidintegrated tannins. Spicy oak accents from barrel aging.

Reviews

Bright huge fruit with a little spice on the backend. The finish comes up a bit short, but overall highly enjoyable.

A rich, deep red color and velvety layers of plum, blackberry and cassis highlight our Robert Mondavi Coastal Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon. On the lingering finish, delicate nuances of spices interweave with hints of vanilla from barrel aging.

The 2006 Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon comes from cool-climate Central Coast grapes and has been blended with Syrah and smallamounts of Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah. The wine has the sweet black cherry and dark berry fruit character that distinguishesCalifornia's finest Cabernet Sauvignons, and its ripe fruit is supported by velvety tannins and well-integrated oak. This is a wineof excellent depth, richness and length on the palate. Enjoy with a wide array of dishes, from standing rib roasts, grilled steak, androast duck to spare ribs, lasagna, and flavorful hard cheeses.

WA 90pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: Slightly superior to the 2005, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as a creme de cassis, spice box, and floral-scented bouquet, and a medium to full-bodied finish. A strong effort, it should drink nicely for 12-15 years. Tasting Notes - Deep and dense with seamless layers of blackberry, black plum, cassis, and cedar and soft, well-integrated tannins. Spicy oak accents from barrel aging.

Deep and dense with perfumed aromas and delicious flavors of blackberry, cassis, black olive and dark chocolate. Smooth and supple, with fine-grained tannins, good acid and a lengthy finish.
