Robert Foley Vineyards Claret Proprietary Blend Wine 2009

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

Bright ruby-red. Sexy aromas and flavors of black raspberry dark chocolate and licorice. Supple sweet and concentrated but with a solid spine of suave tannins giving shape to the wine. The long chocolatey aftertaste underscores the impression of sweetness. Really lush cabernet here. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

During this period he also created the highly acclaimed Switchback Ridge, Hourglass, Paloma, School House, and Engel Family wines. In 1998 Robert Foley Vineyards bottled their first Claret, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and over the last 10 years have expanded and diversified their own production. Bob’s reputation for producing very expressive wines which finish gracefully continues to develop at the new winery facility on the summit of Napa County’s Howell Mountain. Bob and wife and Business Manager Kelly Kehoe house over 1000 barrels in an extensive cave system which they completed in summer of 2008 for the production of Robert Foley wines. When Bob's not making wine he spends quality time with his wife Kelly, his children, and his new grand daughter. Deep dark purple at the core that pushes all the way to the edge of the rim. A dense and silky Napa cabernet that has an opulent nose of blackberry dark chocolate violets and blueberry. This is velvety and rich in the mouth with soft well-integrated tannins that glide seamlessly across the palate. Big and modern this is full throttle cab at its finest. This should drink well from 2013 through 2025. John Sweeney.

(90% cabernet sauvignon and 10% merlot) Saturated medium ruby. Very dark aromas of blackberry licorice minerals tar and molten chocolate. Wonderfully ripe thick and supple but not overly sweet. In fact this tannic brooding youthfully backward wine is distinctly clenched today and not yet expressing its inherent complexity. Finishes with a medicinal austerity and big dusty tannins. This boasts terrific fruit but needs four or five years of cellaring. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

The inky/purple-hued seamless 2004 Claret boasts gorgeous aromas of creme de cassis blackberries smoke licorice espresso roast and spring flowers. With sensational concentration full body a voluptuous mouthfeel decent acidity and sweet tannin it can be drunk now and over the next 10-15 years. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Deep ruby. Sexy aromas of blackcurrant graphite and licorice. Dense sweet and superconcentrated with terrific intensity of briary black raspberry flavors. Powerful long brooding wine finishing with toothcoating tannins. This big boy begs to be served with a piece of meat. Not as lush at this stage as the wonderful 2002 but this may live longer. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
