What to Expect

The classic Bordeaux blends rely on either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon for the bulk of the wine with additions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec helping to add complexity, color, body and structure to the finished wine.

Winemakers Notes

2004 Robert Foley Claret Napa Valley MAGNUM SIZE - Robert Foley is the winemaker for Pride Mountain Vineyards and this is his uber-premium Cabernet Sauvignon based blend. This could be the best one yet. Cabernet from mountain vineyards and rocky well-drained blocks in Calistoga combine to form this blockbuster Claret. A small percentage of Merlot fills the mid palate while the Cabernets provide massive structure and mouth-filling tannins. IWC 92+ (6/2007): (90% cabernet sauvignon and 10% merlot) Saturated medium ruby. Very dark aromas of blackberry, licorice, minerals, tar and molten chocolate. Wonderfully ripe, thick and supple but not overly sweet. In fact, this tannic, brooding, youthfully backward wine is distinctly clenched today and not yet expressing its inherent complexity. Finishes with a medicinal austerity and big, dusty tannins. This boasts terrific fruit but needs four or five years of cellaring.

WS 91 (11/2007): Dusty oak and berry aromas are tight and compact, with dried currant, mineral, blackberry and oak, ending with more complexity and depth than is evident on the first sip. The tannins are firm. Decant. Best from 2008 through 2013. 1,500 cases made.
