Black and burly, with notes of dill and horsehide. That it's opaque makes sense, given its heavy black-currant and coffee notes. Quite mammoth in proportions, maybe even bordering on syrupy.
Drinkable now despite lush, firm tannins, this Cab lets its fruit star. The black currant, black cherry pie, mocha and vanilla spice flavors are delicious and compelling, and the finish is dry, elegant and upscale.
The outstanding, dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder offers up sweet scents of black fruits, smoke, minerals, licorice, and well-integrated oak. It is medium to full-bodied and powerful, with moderate tannin, and a deeper, more muscular personality than the supple Affinity. It can be drunk now and over the next 12-13 years.
The powerful, dense, backward, highly-extracted, formidable 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder boasts a black/purple color. Although impressively endowed and muscular with admirable symmetry, this wine requires 3-5 years of bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020.
Aims for elegance and finesse (at the expense of sheer power), with spicy red currant and black cherry fruit that's smooth and polished, with mild, integrated tannins. Drink now through 2008.
Deliciously rich and complex, with concentrated currant, black cherry, anise, berry and spice flavors, finishing with pleasant, well-integrated tannins. Drink now through 2007.
