Roar Wines Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sweet on the nose with notes of hot asphalt and roasted berry fruits with hints of herbs and gingery spice lingering n the background. Prickly on the palate was it CO2 or refermenting. I did not revisit. NR

We are a family winery specializing in small lots of Santa Lucia Highland's Pinot Noir, Syrah and beginning in the summer of 2009, Chardonnay. Our roots in the Santa Lucia Highlands are quite deep. Both Gary and Rosella grew up in California's agricultural heartland where Gary’s family has farmed for over 100 years. After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in agribusiness, Gary took over the running of the family farm business, which owned and managed over 200 acres of row crops in the Salinas Valley. Recognizing the region's potential for premium wine grapes, we planted Rosella's Vineyard in 1996. We also co-own and manage the Garys' Vineyard with Gary Pisoni of Pisoni Vineyard. Read less

Nice color, light ruby darkening towards the center. Nose filled with fruit and caramel. Sour cherries in the front with a hint of something aking to 'Karo' syrup. Well balanced with a crisp finish.

Acidic with a lot of bright raspberry and strawberry fruit. Lots of sweet fruit, and a lot of acidity - a bit out of balance

Vintage: 2015 01/23/2018

2015 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir: Grapes for our 2015 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir were harvested August 18th-September 9th at 25.6 - 28.4 brix. The juice spent an average of 28 days on the skins before being pressed to French oak barrels for 10 months aging. The wine was racked once, and bottled unfiltered and unfined in July 2016. Winemaker Notes: Drawing on aspects of all of our vineyards, our 2015 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is a wonderful expression of what the region has to offer. Dark fruit, leather, and toasted oak with light overtones of honey evolve into blackberry, cola, and cherry, opening to include chocolate shavings and floral accents. A woody, almost evergreen, perfume enriches the lower-tone fruit through a long, dense, meaty finish full of tobacco, leather, cherry, and blackberry. Alcohol: 14.4% pH: 3.73 TA: 0.58 g/100ml ** Only 4 in Stock **

It's here and it's limited... make sure to get a few bottles before it's gone. Roar is gaining cult-status with domestic pinot-philes, and if you haven't had a chance to try a bottle, now is the time.
