Roar Pinot Noir Sierra Mar Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Big creamy black cherry and fig driven nose. This is terrible, sweet, candied and acidic with an extracted feel and a long, sticky, treacle oaky finish. 76pts

Both Gary and Rosella grew up in California's agricultural heartland where Gary’s family has farmed for over 100 years. After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in agribusiness, Gary took over the running of the family farm business, which owned and managed over 200 acres of row crops in the Salinas Valley. Recognizing the region's potential for premium wine grapes, we planted Rosella's Vineyard in 1996. We also co-own and manage the Garys' Vineyard with Gary Pisoni of Pisoni Vineyard. Read less

Vintage: 2011 07/24/2014

Bold yet graceful, offering a full-blown mix of red and dark berry, shaded by toasty, cedary oak. Ends with ripe plum and wilted rose scents, featuring firm, ripe tannins that let the flavors glide on. Drink now through 2022. 549 cases made. -JL A brilliant Pinot Noir that has a core of sweet fruit that's balanced out by savory, mineral-like qualities, the 2011 Sierra Mar Vineyard has a medium-bodied mouthfeel, plenty of texture and juicy acidity. Slightly plump and upfront, this friendly beauty is hard to resist, and I see no reason to either. Enjoy bottles over the coming 5-6 years. Drink now-2019. ** Only 2 in Stock **

Fresh and lively, with zesty ripe plum, blueberry and raspberry flavors that are delicate and persistent, ending with a crushed rock minerality. Drink now through 2020. 385 cases made. -JL The 2010 Pinot Noir Sierra Mar wafts from the glass with sweet dark cherries, flowers, mint and sweet herbs. The Sierra Mar impresses for its delicate, sensual texture and sweet inner perfume, but at the same time, it doesn't quite have enough pure depth to balance some of the more herbal notes. The wine does flesh out a bit on the finish with time in the glass. This is a strong effort in a challenging vintage for third-leaf fruit in a newly developed site. I have high hopes for the future for this bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. ** Only 3 in Stock **
