River Road Vineyards Chardonnay Sonoma County 2005
"Inviting citrus, kiwi fruit, and custard aromas with bright floral notes. Flavors of ruby grapefruit, cantaloupe, and toffee, with a pleasing finish of citrus and spice. Harvest Date: Sept. 21 - Oct. 18, 2005 Average Brix at Harvest: 23.6 Fermentation: 75% Tank Fermenters Wine at Bottling: Alcohol 13.7%, pH 3.45, TA 0.71 g/100ml Cooperage: French and American Oak Cases Bottled: 15,000 May - June, 2006 "
I'm not a huge fan of chards, and this one has some flaws that purists may not like, but I like its avoiding beating me over the head with oak planks, especially its slightly bitter taste, not overly so, which balances well what I often find too fruity and saccharine a grape.
