The late Italo Zingarelli, a former boxer and producer of spaghetti westerns, bought Rocca delle Macie in 1973 and thus embarked on a career as one of Chianti Classico’s more unlikely wine producers. Thanks to his dedication and that of his son Sergio who now oversees the property, Rocca delle Macie has become one of Tuscany’s greatest wine estates, employing organic fertilization, careful pruning, small oak barriques for aging, and harvesting by hand. Production Area Produced with grapes exclusively from the Fizzano vineyard, the property of Rocca delle Macie. Grape Varieties 95% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot Vinification After fermentation most of the wine matures in 35hl French oak barrels, while a small amount is aged in 225-liter barriques. After the blending the wine rest in the bottle for another year. Color Intense Ruby-Red Bouquet Intense with hints of wild berries and well-balanced spice. Taste Warm with ripe red fruit aromas and a long finish. Alcohol 13.5% Serving Suggestions Complements red meat dishes, roasts, game and aged cheeses.

Chianti Classico Riserva Fizzano 2010 - 90 points, Wine Enthusiast/ Underbrush, spice and plum aromas lead the nose on this blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. The smooth palate delivers a core of juicy black cherry accented with licorice and espresso. Polished and round, this is already drinking well, but can age at least a few more years.

Riserva di Fizzano 2009 - 87 points, Decanter/ Pleasantly leafy aroma with tomato, forest floor and blackcurrant. An attractive wine that drinks well, with a satisfying, complete, ripe, toasty palate.

Chianti Classico Riserva Fizzano 2008 - 90 points, Wine Enthusiast/ With its inky concentration, rich extraction and ripe aromas of blackberry pie and cherry preserves, fine craftsmanship is evident. Soft veins of spice and chocolate weave elegantly throughout.

Chianti Classico Riserva Fizzano 2007 - 91 points, Wine Enthusiast/ Riserva di Fizzano is always an impressive wine, and the 2007 vintage has produced an especially generous, soft and rich bottling. It delivers aromas of bright cherry, soft spice, chocolate, pipe tobacco and a pretty flower accent at the back. It would pair with pork roasted with fennel seed and garlic.

Riserva di Fizzano 2006 - 91 points, Wine Enthusiast/ Plush, fruit-forward and soft, Riserva di Fizzano shows a modern, confident style. The wine’s appearance already shows darker hues of aging and the bouquet is characterized by dark fruit, leather and spice.
