Riscal Tempranillo Geen D.o. Castilla Y Leon Marques de Riscal Rood 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Marqués de Riscal, the oldest Rioja house, has for many years been a leading and pioneering company in the wine producing sector. As far back as 1858, it became the first winery in Rioja to produce wines following the Bordeaux method, and in 1972 it was the first winery to promote the Rueda Designation of Origin, where it produced its famous Marqués de Riscal white wines. Marqués de Riscal sells its products in 80 countries and its wines enjoy the highest international distinctions as well as numerous awards and mentions in the media. Marqués de Riscal has long pioneered the making of top quality wines in Rioja and Rueda. Recently, the company has embarked on a new adventure by making a red wine with a lot of personal character outside the D.O. Rioja. This wine has been created on the basis of freedom from rules and restrictions about production, using carefully selected Tempranillo grapes from the best plots in gritty soil in the alluvial lands of the Duero region. This '1860 Tempranillo Castilla y León' displays a black-cherry coloured wine with slight violet hues. It has high aromatic intensity, with aromas of ripe dark fruit, fine smoked notes with toasted aromas coming through. On the palate it is meaty and crisp, with a presence of well-polished tannins. Moderate acidity, with a long, pleasant finish in which the oak can be detected more distinctly. This wine pairs well with ham, mild cheeses, casseroles which are not too spicy, pulse stews, poultry, grilled and roast meat.
