Rioja Vega S. A. Tempranillo Blend Rioja Joven 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Low earth and sweet raspberry tones are topped with a layer of smoky oak. This offers up a nice blend to sweet toasted spice notes and a wash of vanilla. A touch muddy on entry, this slowly rights itself quite well. There’s a nice wild black raspberry tone here and the wine is nicely transparent with the wood accents helping to frame the core of earthy, spice and herb that accents the fruit. Not a monster my any means but fresh and fairly complete. The wood here is really well judged allowing the soil and emerging red fruit and herb notes, especially licorice, to pop on the palate and the moderately long, zesty finish. This is delicious. 88pts
