My rating 86: Nice balance firm strong fruit with fruity aromas.
Blackberry and jamy with a hint of smokiness on the nose. Nice tannins. Goes well with cheese. Great deal for $12.
A solid, lighter Rioja. The oak does come through nicely on the finish. Very good quality for the price. It goes well with lots of different foods.
A great value wine. Perfect for everyday drinking.
External Reviews for Rioja Montebuena Bodega Bugo Viejo
This ripe Rioja comes from the Bodega Bugo Viejo, a winery started by six vineyard farming families. They combined their resources into a 500 acre estate and build a state-of-the-art production facility. Located at the far eastern end of Rioja, the vineyards are on the foothills of the "Montebuena" Yerga Mountain. A first release from the outstanding 2009 vintage, this super-value red scored 90 points in the Wine Advocate who said "The 2009 Montebuena is 100% Tempranillo. Dark ruby-colored, it offers an appealing perfume of spice box, leather, tobacco, and blackberry. On the palate it is packed with ripe fruit, has outstanding concentration, and impeccable balance. It is a great bargain that offers a sneak preview of the great 2009 vintage in Rioja and northern Spain in general. It should drink well for 6-8 years."
