Riesling Spatlese Urziger Wurzgarten J. J. Christoffel 91jg 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2010 Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese from J. J. Christoffel is one of the stronger wines in the cellar this year, but it too gives off this perception of very round acidity from its deacidification that is not really in keeping with the style of the 2010 vintage. The nose is quite a bit more precise than the Erdener Treppchen Spätlese, as it offers up scents of apple, strawberries, a touch of lime blossom, slate, a hint of honeycomb and a very gentle base of slate minerality. On the palate the wine is medium-full and shows off a really lovely core of fruit, with fine filigree and good length and grip on the gently acidic finish. Structurally, this comes across like one of the top examples from the 1999 vintage, which will make it quite good for early drinking, but which really emphasizes how the wines have been changed by their deacidification. 2013-2025... 91" JG 4/11 "Eymael and Christoffel’s 2010 Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Spatlese leads with scents of lime, kiwi, basil, juniper, and chervil, and the corresponding display on a bright and relatively firm palate is piquant and zesty. This finishes with nice integration of its slightly bitter elements; impeccably-balanced sweetness; and admirable sheer persistence. Feel free to follow it for 20 years...90" WA #199 02/12 "Scents of lemongrass and pineapple in the nose of a Jos. Christoffel 2010 Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Spatlese – of which, like the corresponding Erdener Treppchen, there is just as single bottling – presage a pungent and brightly juicy palate impression remarkably compatible with creaminess of texture. A satisfyingly long finish offers some interaction of fruit with stony and somehow crystalline mineral notes. In keeping with typical behavior at this address, I think at least 20 years of satisfaction are assured...89" WA 04/12

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
