Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Oberhauser Brucke Donnhoff 94 Jg 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2010 Oberhäuser Brücke Auslese is a really stunning wine in the making. The wine simply soars from the glass in a superb aromatic mélange of apples, oranges, a touch of petrol, striking minerality, honeycomb, orange zest and citrus flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish and wonderfully filigreed, with a great core of fruit, snappy acids, great focus and balance and stunning grip on the very long, dancing finish. I love the interplay of soil, glazed fruit and acids that are on display in this beautiful vintage of Brücke Auslese. 2018-2070... 94+" JG 4/11 "Candied lime rind and marzipan; lily and honeysuckle; white peach and salted caramel inform this wine's haunting nose and rich yet buoyant palate, with the mouthwatering savor that characterized the corresponding Spatlese undiminished. This needs some time in bottle to better focus, and it will be interesting to see whether it develops more sense of cut and brightness. But it's already irresistible, and almost sure to prove worth following for a quarter century or more...94" WA #198 12/11

A Nahe estate - and one of the top performers. Not many estates outside the Mosel receive as much attention as those within it, but if there are any exceptions then perhaps Dönnhoff is one. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Dönnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Dönnhoff. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Dönnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Dönnhoff. The Dönnhoffs own vines in only the top vineyards of the Nahe Valley. These vineyards are sited in several nearby villages, namely Niederhäuser (Hermannshöhle), Oberhauser (Brucke), Schloßböckelheimer (Felsenberg and Kupfergrube), and Norheimer (Kirschheck and Dellchen). The vineyards are principally slate or volcanic soil, and are planted with Riesling and also some Burgundian varieties. Read less
