Fantastic Zin. Will age very well, complex, well balanced, nice fruit forward.
Another great performance from this bottle. Aromas of dusty wild berries with floral perfume. The palate is structured and switched between red and blue fruits with mulling spices. Gorgeous acidity. Great bottle of zin
The wine was a dark purple color in the glass and wafted aromas of black cherry fruit followed by confectioners sugar, sage, and a bit of nail polish remover (I mean that in a good way) which added a floral perfume and kept me with my nose to the glass for minutes on end. On the palate it delivered big, lush brambly fruit with spicy vanilla and dark chocolate flavors. The Ridge Ponzo Vineyard was a big, structured, rich, full-bodied Zinfandel with a long red fruit finish. It’s a wine that will age for years in your cellar but probably only moments in your glass.
This is one of my favorite Zinfandels. The flavor has that ineffable quality that all great Zins should have. The taste was wonderfully bold but balanced at the same time.
great paired with grano padano oltre 20 mesi, good with parmigianno reggiano oltre 22 mesi
External Reviews for Ridge Zinfandel Ponzo
Blackberry jam, tart plum, crushed peppercorn, dusty mineral earth. Full-bodied, exotic red/black raspberry fruit. Nicely integrated tannins; fresh, lively acidity.
This big, richly extracted Zin was rated 5 Stars by the Quarterly Review of Wines and Awarded Co-Best of Show in their tasting, with notes of “Big, rich, ripe, deliciously exotic, black currant, cinnamon and nutty oak flavors.". It’s a wine that’s relatively new for Ridge Vineyards who have become an Icon, for decades of producing great Zinfandels like York Creek and Lytton Springs. The Ponzo Vineyard is 4 and half miles south of Lytton Springs just over the Dry Creek Valley border. A portion has old vines planted right after prohibition and the vineyard has a small portion of Petit Sirah that goes into the blend. So it’s 95% and 5% Petite Sirah fermented on its own natural yeasts and aged in American oak barrels for 12 months.
