Ridge Zinfandel Pagani Ranch 2011
78% Zinfandel, 18% Alicante Bouschet, 3% Petite Sirah. Rich boysenberry and rhubarb aromas together with barrel spice, licorice and fresh mint. On the palate is ripe plum fruit, juicy acid, sensuous tannins, and a long finish. Alcohol 14.7%. Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 93 points by Wine Advocate: ...another striking wine. It boasts fabulous depth yet at the same time maintains remarkable aromatic freshness and nuance. Dark cherries, flowers, mint and licorice flesh out on a beautifully articulated finish laced with persistent saline notes. This slightly cooler site was somewhat protected from the severe heat. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.

Whack me with your vanilla stick, and a slathering of toasted coconut while you're at it, all layered over rich and slightly sweet zinberry fruit packed with briary nuance. No one will call this elegant or refined, but it does explode with rich, pure blackberry and logan berry fruit on the palate and is a wonderfully satisfying old school example of Zinfandel! 92pts
Beautiful on the nose with bright wild berry fruit framed by floral and mineral, and smoky top notes. Rich and powerful on entry, this is already very complex with sweet tart berry fruit framed by a little ash, briar and wood spice on entry. gaining focus in the mouth I love the tannins here, angular and craggy as they support the core of dark, inky bramble berry fruit. Just explosive on the mid-palate where the core of dark oily fruit is remarkably fresh and deep all leading to a long finish that shows off a little chocolatiness of the oak. 92pts
A wow wine in this company. Intense and perfumed on the nose still showing hints of American, oak with dill accents to the leathery, black fruited nose that shows some light spice notes topped with lovely red cherry fruit and hints of grilled meat. Everything comes together gorgeously, adding in stewy plums and spice notes with air. Sweet on entry, then meaty with intense strawberry, spiced raspberry and American oak flavors. While it does show a touch of heat on the finish, this comes with lots of black berry and almost black currant fruit. Sweetly fruited on entry, this shows excellent integration with compelling complexity and lovely spice on the finish. Finish is a touch short at first, though there is a fine echo to the fruit. 92pts
Very attractive garnet color. Super intro to the palate. Very much in the Zin style that I recall from the 1980s. In addition to the blackberry fruit, I get the impression that they were not too fussy during the crushing process about picking out leaves and stems. I just get the sensation that this is a rustic wine meant for relatively simple foods and just for fun. Firm, gripping tannin. Easy to enjoy tart acids. Agreeable, lengthy finish.
Light pepper. Smooth. Very nice.

A Zinfandel wine from California in USA. 2010 Ridge Zinfandel Pagani Ranch 750ml
Paganirsquo;s centenarian vines grow in northern Sonoma valley, the vineyard mostly Zinfandel, with alicante bouschet (9 percent) and petite sirah (3) as well. In 2000, they grew a broad and generous red, even if the winersquo;s substantial acidity kicks the fruit aside to show the lean, sophisticated structure underneath. It trails off with an impression of burnt chocolate, peppermint, pie crust, interactions of fruit, tannin and oak that should only gain complexity with age.
The (15% alcohol) 2001 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch (88% Zinfandel and 12% Alicante Bouchet) is a powerful effort. It reveals surprisingly good acidity for a wine of this size, as well as deep, chewy, Amarone-like raisiny, raspberry and cherry flavors intermixed with hints of prunes and earth. A touch of asphalt also makes an appearance in this full-bodied, chunky 2001. Drink it over the next 5ndash;6 years.
WA 94pts - Winemaker Notes - California's dry winter weather persisted for a second year, and the deep roots of these century-old vines provided just enough water to get through the growing season. We picked on September 30, crushing the small crop into five open-top tanks. To stabilize alicante's intense color, we co-fermented it with the zinfandel. Juice was pumped over skins for five days during a vigorous natural-yeast fermentation. Natural secondary finished by mid- November. Each lot was exceptional, and we combined all five for this year's Pagani. Racked to barrel early, its intense fruit and amazing depth permitted use of twentyfive percent new american oak barrels; the rest were one, three, and four years old. Over fifteen months, tannins have softened. The wine's complex fruit and superb balance will show best over the next seven to eight years.
Inky ruby. Exotically perfumed, oak-spiced of cherry compote, blackberry, cola and vanilla bean, with smoke and black cardamom notes adding complexity. Sappy, broad and densely packed dark fruit flavors show very good intensity and pick up a spicy character with air. Really clings on the finish, which leaves notes of cherry, licorice and candied violet behind.
