Ridge Zinfandel "Buchignani" 2007

External Review by Astor Wines & Spirits:

This wine comes from a small planting of old-vine zinfandel on the Buchignani Ranch, located in the hills north of Dry Creek Valley. The zinfandel block, approximately five acres in size, was planted in the 1940s and '50s on a rocky knoll overlooking the family home, where Stan Buchignani, grandson of the ranch's founder, Dominico Cerruti, lives today. The Zinfandel, ripened in a year unblemished by sustained heat waves, spent 12 months in a mix of new to 4 yr old American oak barrels. Lovely, plush and well spiced, one experiences darkened boysenberry up front which blends into eucalyptus, raisiny fig notes. It's mildly evolved character sets it apart from the typical early-drinking zin, making this ideal for sophisticated dinner parties, especially when serving a roast.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
