Food Pairings for Ridge Zinfandel Blend Sonoma County Geyserville
External Reviews for Ridge Zinfandel Blend Sonoma County Geyserville
This blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Mataro (Mourvandegrave;dre) is a good, rather rustic red wine. It has strong, jammy flavors of cherries, red currants, plumped raisins, peppery spices and sandalwood, and turns a little sweet on the finish.
Geyserville was Ridge's first source of red wine grapes, along with Montebello. This is Ridge's most age-worthy Zinfandel, showing pepper, tar, and cedar when young, and rich mocha as it ages.
The 2008 Geyserville Proprietary Red (72% Zinfandel, 20% Carignan, and the rest Petite Sirah, Mataro, and Mourvedre; 14.8% alcohol) exhibits a dense ruby/purple color along with lots of glycerin, blue and black fruits, pepper, and incense. This rich, fleshy 2008 may turn out to be more juicy and succulent than the 2007. It should last for 7andndash;8 years.
Once again an impressive line-up has been released by one of California's leading Zinfandel producers. For starters, there is the 1993 Geyserville (now officially a proprietary wine), which contains large quantities of Zinfandel. The wine is rich and fat, with excellent concentration, a seductive, earthy, black-cherry component, good glycerin, low acidity, and a plump, heady, chewy style that already provides considerable pleasure and joy. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
Geyserville was Ridge's first source of red wine grapes, along with Montebello. Ridge's zinfandels are always age-worthy; this one shows pepper, tar, and cedar when young, evolving into rich mocha after some time in cellar.
With 14.3% alcohol, the 1994 Geyserville, which cannot legally be labeled a Zinfandel because it contains 28% Carignan, 8% Petite Sirah, and 4% Mataro, is the most classy and complex wine of this group. It is made in a Mediterranean/Provencal style reminiscent of wht Zinfandel might taste like if it were planted in the rocky soils of Domaine Trevallon's vineyards just outside the hillside ghost village of Les Baux. The wine displays a deep purple color, a big, earthy, peppery, smoky, black and red fruit-scented nose, and gobs of sweet fruit. Profoundly rich and full-bodied, this multidimensional wine possesses a layered, chewy palate, some tannin, good acidity, and a spicy, long, satisfying finish. Already delicious and complex, it should be drunk over the next 7-9 years.
The 2009 Geyserville is a gorgeous wine. It shows expressive inner perfume, sweet black cherries, menthol and minerals. This is an understated, exceptionally elegant red endowed with considerable finesse and fabulous overall balance. A round, sensual finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. In 2009 the blend is 74% Zinfandel, 17% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Alicante Bouschet and 1% Mourvedre. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2029.
This full-bodied yet elegant Zinfandel is an intense purple colour with a nose
of blueberries, blackberries and spice. In the mouth it offers a harmonious
balance of rich, succulent fruit and good acidity. Enjoyable now, it will
continue to develop over the next eight to ten years.
