Ridge Red Bordeaux Blend Santa Cruz Mountains Monte Bello 1997

Winemaker's Notes:

Very purple, tight, and tannic; dark Monte Bello flavors of black cassis and dense blackberry; floral notes of rose petals, wild flowers, violets; classic mineral quality; earth, cedar, leather; mint, blackberry, minerally nose; full bodied; some very dominant oak influences, clove, nutmeg, vanilla; needs a year to integrate further; wild chaparral, fennel; penetrating sweetness of spice, blackberry, light blueberry, cassis, tobacco/cigar, light green olive, mineral; tannins still very bold and dominant; long, balanced finish.

Beautiful! A nose of eucalytus, minerals and chocolate. Very fruity for a 10 year old wine. Loooong finish. Tasted at the New York Wine Experience

Huge, super concentrated, black ink, with a nose of ripe boysenberries, tar, and taste of a big grapey fruit. Not as vibrant when it was young( I tried this 8 years ago, and just now), but after some air, it gives a hint of its youthful past. Low acidity, but lush, good finish, and almost sinful. If you can find this one, let me know!

The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello exhibits an opaque purple color as well as an elegant black currant mineral and smoky oak-scented nose. The wine is medium to full-bodied tannic and in need of 10 years of cellaring. Not a blockbuster this offering is more elegant and finesse-styled than usual. However as with previous Monte Bellos it will take a long time to come around yet it will keep for 2-3 decades. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Wine Spectator ReviewRipe and compact, with rich black cherry, plum, chocolate and cedar notes, focused and long on the finish. Has tannin to lose. Best from 2002 through 2009.
