Not the darkest Ridge Zin that I've ever seen in the glass. Woody bouquet, with, maybe, some hints of oxidation. Initial palate sensation was alcohol taste--noticeable sweetness that I would normally attribute to alcohol. In the back of the tongue/palate I get some blackberry flavors that I often associate with Zinfandel. Tannins apparent, but controlled. Air seems to help this wine. Also I am looking forward to having this with grilled rosemary and balsamic vinegar marinaded flank steak in a little while. US$24.99 at WIne Club in Santa Ana in 2004.

[Stromboli] Blueberry on the nose. Not overly tannic. Light for a Zin, esp a Ridge. Pepper, jammy, clove, licorice, a little earthy. Started a little tight would recommend giving it 2 hours to open up. I think that my last sip was the best.

Smooth and breathtaking. Potent purple in color with a lingering essence of blueberries. Amazing nectar.

Winemaker's Notes:

84% petite sirah, 16% zinfandel Though we made an essence (a dessert wine) in 2001, this is our first petite sirah table wine from the vineyard. The blend's zinfandel comes from the hundred-year-old mixed vines on House Hill and South Flat visible from the south-facing doors in the tasting room.
