My 4/8, the group’s 4/8 Sweet oak greets the nose with hint of coconut and suntan lotion over blueberry fruit that shows some subtle spicy character. Bright and focused in the mouth, there’s a nice faceted feel here though not much complexity beyond an attractive blend of tart blueberry pie filling, vanilla and a hint of latex. There’s a nice touch of almost stemmy spice on the finish, which turns a touch sour. A little straight forward and simple. 87pts

Perfumed and deep on the nose, with aromas of crushed berries, balsamic, and a bit of gamy lamb topped with faint sage and lemon verbena notes. On entry, this is plump, with some density but not a ton of weight, delivering a a little blueberry fruit early on, followed by some carob, then mostly raspberry and hints of wild cherry fruit. This finished with fine tension and detail and remains bright and vibrant. 93 points

Lots of dark oak greets the nose along with dusty soil and lightly dried leafy aromas under olive laced black cherry and black currant fruit. Elegant on entry, the well framed fruit has a lovely dark character, broad shouldered and narrow waited with well integrated acidity and dusty tannins lending support. The palate gains lovely brushy, dried herb and tree bark notes adding complexity leading into a rather explosive finish. This is still tight and wound up on itself but the wonderful length and freshness to the fruit on the finish, with it’s gentle sense of innate sweetness bodes very well for the future. Complex both texturally as well as aromatically. 92pts

Is this the Zin of the Vintage? Well no it can't be since it's only 70% Zinfandel but it is delicious with huge, brambly fruit tones on the nose with hints of dill, cocoa and creamy oak. The mouthfeel is lovely, youthful yet balanced if a bit chunky. There's a light layer of vanilla and spice laid over the blackberry, boysenberry fruit but it's all cut with a mineral vein and excellent top notes of spicy red berries, leather, and dried floral notes. Rich and still with some baby fat to lose, this none the less has all the parts to come together wonderfully. 91pts

Simply gorgeous aromatics, all dried strawberry and raspberry supported by tobacco and woodspice and tart red fruit. Broad, chewy and rich in the mouth with gorgeous fruit that is vibrant and clear, supported by polished little tannins. the structural balance here is really wonderful, though this needs another 2 to 3 years, it is already fabulous if a little chunky on the backend that pops with raspberry and red cherry flavors leading to a long, vibrant finish. Classic geyserville in the making. 93pts

The 2011- Had this at lunch the other day. I liked the blend, took some of the forward fruit typical of my experience with Zinfandel and replaced it with spice-hint of cinnamon and earth-clay. Very nice.

Big nose with nostril filling brambly wood and earthy aromas. Much more fruity on the tip of the tongue than I'm used to from Ridge--tons of blackberry that makes you think "sweet, must be sugar," but that sensation dissipates fairly quickly. The next sensation is that this wine is nicely balanced between fruit, most tannins and supporting acid. US$27.99 at Total WIne in 2011.

Big and bold, with good round fruit featured, framed with well balanced oak and acidity. Still a bit primary after being bottled only 7 months. With another year or two of bottle age, it'll be even better. 90-91 points.

Very nice zin from Ridge. Needs some air time since it is a fairly big wine with loads of dark fruit, pronounced tannins and a bit jammy. This wine begs for a big steak.

Early burst of fruit and then it continues - really nice, cherry with low acid

Youthful violet color. Powerful, musky aromas of dried cherry, cassis, violet and vanilla, with a floral topnote. Energetic and precise on the palate, offering sappy red and dark berry flavors that become sweeter with air. A mocha quality comes up on the smooth, gently tannic finish, which lingers with very good tenacity. This fruit was harvested between September 21 and October 3, so all was in literally a day before the heavy rains fell.

The 2011 Geyserville impresses for its silkiness and texture. Sweet dark berries flowers and mint are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. The 2011 is a decidedly mid-weight feminine style of Geyserville. Floral notes reappear on the finish adding lift and vibrancy. The 2011 should drink well upon release and also age. To make the 2011 Ridge was especially selective and fewer parcels made it into the blend than normal especially with the Petite Sirah. The blend is 80% Zinfandel 16% Carignane 3% Petite Sirah and 1% Alicante Bouschet. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2031. -Antonio Galloni Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

The 2011 Geyserville is a ruby color. Scented with bramble fruit, mint, gravelly earth, sweet oak, as well as black tea, and sweet cherry fruit. Medium chalky tannins, sensuous, layered, with complex minerals, old vine/field-blend fruits and lively acidit

Ridge has made the Geyserville as a single-site zinfandel in every year since 1966. The grapes are grown in three adjoining vineyards on a defined stretch of gravelly soil approximately one-and-a-quarter miles long and a half-mile wide.

Winemaker's Notes:

here's what parker had to say about the 2002- and we really love the '04- Wine Advocate #157 (Feb 2005) A reference point effort from Ridge, the 2002 Geyserville Proprietary Red (84% Zinfandel, 12% Carignan, and 4% Petite Sirah) boasts a rich, sumptuous bouquet of blackberries, kirsch liqueur, damp earth, and licorice. Full-bodied and powerful, with good acidity as well as surprising elegance, this ruby/purple-colored, heady 2002 can be drunk over the next 7-8 years.
