Food Pairings for Ridge Geyserville
Big nose with nostril filling brambly wood and earthy aromas. Much more fruity on the tip of the tongue than I'm used to from Ridge--tons of blackberry that makes you think "sweet, must be sugar," but that sensation dissipates fairly quickly. The next sensation is that this wine is nicely balanced between fruit, most tannins and supporting acid. US$27.99 at Total WIne in 2011.
Big and bold, with good round fruit featured, framed with well balanced oak and acidity. Still a bit primary after being bottled only 7 months. With another year or two of bottle age, it'll be even better. 90-91 points.

Ruby-red. Black raspberry, blueberry, smoked meat and dried violet on the fresh nose. Juicy, sharply focused red and dark berry flavors are dusted with suave minerals and firmed by supple tannins, with an exotic floral pastille note emerging on the back. Finishes sappy, sweet and long, with a deeper cherry note. Already quite complex.
Just like the tasty Sonoma field-style blends of yore, with distinct toasty dill and berry cobbler aromas and zesty raspberry, cracked pepper and earthy sage flavors that end with slightly rustic tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Mataro. Drink now through 2015.
A very elegant and rich Zinfandel that maintains the structure of a Cabernet and the fruit of a Shiraz. Intense black fruits and oak-granted spice make this wine wonderful while young, but it will also do very well with age. The depth found in this great bottle reaches much farther than its 750 ml. size lets on.
Ripe, exotic and loaded with personality. Aromas of ripe blackberry, underbrush and licorice lead to concentrated huckleberry and cracked-pepper beef flavors that finish with lively tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Mataro. Best from 2010 through 2015.
This blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Mataro (Mourvèdre) is a good, rather rustic red wine. It has strong, jammy flavors of cherries, red currants, plumped raisins, peppery spices and sandalwood, and turns a little sweet on the finish.
A big, bold wine, based on an old-fashioned field blend. Predoninately Zinfandal, with smaller amounts of Carignon and Petite Sirah, it shows berry flavors that are ripe to the point of raisiny. The finish turns a little Porty.
The 2008 Geyserville Proprietary Red (72% Zinfandel, 20% Carignan, and the rest Petite Sirah, Mataro, and Mourvedre; 14.8% alcohol) exhibits a dense ruby/purple color along with lots of glycerin, blue and black fruits, pepper, and incense. This rich, fleshy 2008 may turn out to be more juicy and succulent than the 2007. It should last for 7-8 years.
94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): The 2009 Geyserville is a gorgeous wine. It shows expressive inner perfume, sweet black cherries, menthol and minerals. This is an understated, exceptionally elegant red endowed with considerable finesse and fabulous overall balance. A round, sensual finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. In 2009 the blend is 74% Zinfandel, 17% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Alicante Bouschet and 1% Mourvedre. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2029. (Aug 2011)
