Rex Hill Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

"Over twenty-five different wines comprise this blend of 100%high-quality Willamette Valley Pinot Noir aged in small French oakbarrels for 9-10 months.Brilliant saturated clear garnet color from rim to the center. Aromasof bing cherries, ripe raspberries, blueberries, red currents, minerals, tobacco, game and Indian spices jump from the glass when thewine is poured. In time the wine opens to reveal notes of juicy redfruits, beeswax, cloves, sweet oak and more savory/musky notes ofcrushed herbs, tea and clean earth. Deep red fruit flavors cascade overthe palate on the attack and lead to a lush, deep mid-palate. Showingthe power and concentration of the 2006 vintage, the wine hits itsstride on the finish. Strong structure from the ripe tannins and depthof fruit give great length and focus to the finish. While large scaledand weighty, the 2006 Rex Hill Willamette Valley Pinot Noir still showsthe integrity and balance that has become the hallmark of classicOregon Pinot Noir and that will allow it to become more complex overthe next 10 years." Slight, alcoholic and young. Based on others' high praise, I'm thinking this is one for saving.

Tart and light bodied. Sour cherry. Seemed a little thin.

From the Oregon winery named ‘Winery of the Year’ four times by Wine & Spirits Magazine, comes this tried and true Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. 100% Willamette Valley fruit from the Northern end of the Valley, aged 10 months in French oak barrels. The ’06 vintage was a remarkable success and this wine shows the rich complex flavors and concentration that Oregon Pinot’s are known for.
