External Reviews for Rex Hill Pinot Noir Willamette
The 2011 REX HILL Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is a perfect Oregon Pinot Noir color: beautiful, dark and brilliant burgundy red from the center to the rim. When first poured, intense aromatics of wet stones, black cherries, ripe raspberries, cassis, tobacco and forest floor notes jump from the glass. After some time, the wine opens and deepens revealing notes of iris, cinnamon, spice and huckleberries. In the mouth, the attack opens with red fruit flavors and minerals which transform into darker fruit flavors as the wine moves along the palate. Firm ripe tannins and a rich texture characterize the long finish with lingering flavors of red fruits and wet stones. Although the 2011 REX HILL Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is drinking well now, it has the focus, balance and intensity to age and become more complex over the next 20 years. - WineryAging: 10 months in French oakAcid: 6.0 g/LpH: 3.58
The new releases begin with the 2009 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley, a multiple AVA blend of which there are 6000+ cases. Medium ruby red in color, it exhibits aromas of damp earth, cinnamon, clove, brown sugar, cherry, and raspberry. In the glass it reveals a smooth texture, savory flavors, moderate depth and concentration, and good balance. Drink this tasty effort over the next 5–6 years.
Bright red. Spicy raspberry and red cherry aromas are complicated by lively floral and herbal qualities. Sappy and round, with sweet red fruit and candied rose flavors, supple tannins and subtle spiciness. This open-knit pinot finishes with a touch of heat.
Focused, satiny and elegant, with a powerful thrust behind the pure currant and boysenberry flavors, shaded with touches of talcum and cream as the finish expands. Drink now through 2019.

Tight, with a dark cast to the blackberry and tar flavors, playing lightly against slightly gritty tannins on the firm finish. Best from 2012 through 2016.
Though this is near the bottom end of the Rex Hill Pinot pole, it does not suffer from a lack of flavor. Big fruit, organically grown, runs right through the core, a mix of berries, cherries and plums; woven into the fruit is a lightly leafy vein, a whiff of tobacco, and a suggestion of earthy, organic compost. Thoroughly delicious.
