Reserve Saint Augustin Coteaux du Tricastin 1993

Member Review by duncan 906:

This bottle of wine was part of a lot I bought on the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/64390.The Coteaux du Tricastin was an AOC for red, white and rose wine, although 95% of production is red, from 21 communes to the south of the town of Montelimar on the east bank of the Rhone valley. The AOC was granted in 1973 although viticulture in the area goes back to before the Romans. In 2010 the name of the AOC was changed to Grignan Les Adhemar as the growers did not want their name to be associated with the local Tricastin nuclear power station. My bottle label says bottled by Vicomte Bernard de Romanet of Saint-Jean-d'Ardieres and I was surprised to discover that this name is that of a wine importer in Luton England.I have not been able to find out much detail about my wine such as cepagement etc.I opened it last night with my supper of chicken breast and I was not impressed. It was definitely over the hill and brown around the edges although there was still some fruit there.I once had another Tricastin wine in a restaurant in France so this was a bit of a let down

Vicomte Bernard de Romanet is a United Kingdom-based supplier of select wines from around the world, established in 1967. The wines are not offered in retail or on premise establishments, but only by direct sales. Tastings are arranged in clients’ homes or in one of their 13 offices, much like Avon or Mary Kay cosmetics. The company was established to provide a then unmet service in a country with little in the way of quality wine shops with a global portfolio. Though British wine shop selections have improved since the 1960s, the company is still going strong. Their goal is to provide a “tutored guide through” to build customer appreciation and knowledge of the wines. Wines are sourced from France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, California, Chile, Argentina, and other parts of the world. They also offer a service for customers to add a custom label to bottles, with a two-case minimum.  Read less
