Surrounded by some of America’s oldest Zinfandel vineyards, Renwood Winery is located in the picturesque California foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Renwood produces world-class award winning wines from Amador County and the Sierra Foothills. Boston native Robert Smerling founded Renwood in 1993. Mr. Smerling fell in love with Amador County’s rich history and magnificent vineyards. A plan was set in place to build one of America’s premier Zinfandel wineries. Mr. Smerling brought together a group of professional investors who helped him found the company. Wine production has grown from 2,500 cases in 1993 to over 100,000 cases today. The critics all agree Renwood produces consistently exceptional wines covering the spectrum from big, bold, jammy Zins to wonderfully balanced Syrahs and Barberas. Today we produce over 18 different wines, including 2 Proprietary wines, 3 Vineyard Designated wines, 6 Amador County wines, 4 Red Label wines and 3 Dessert wines. With the introduction of our Red Label Series from our younger vines, Renwood has entered a new phase in its development. We are able to provide quality wine at reasonable prices to the wine by-the-glass trade and major floor displays in supermarkets and large retailers throughout the country. As part of the continuing expansion, Renwood acquired Santino Winery in 1995. Today, we have 50,000 square feet of production space in Plymouth. In addition to the Plymouth site, we have an Ione facility with 15,000 square feet of production space. Our Tasting Room and Hospitality Center are open daily from 10:30 to 5:30. Last year, Renwood entertained 40,000 visitors at our Tasting Room. You can find Renwood wines in all 50 states and 16 foreign countries. Renwood has been featured in Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Food & Wine Magazine, Touring & Tasting, Decanter, and many other magazines. Renwood has been awarded top medals at world wine competitions including California State Fair, Los Angeles County Fair, San Francisco International Wine Competition, Hilton Head Wine Festival, Atlanta Wine Challenge and many more worldwide. Our flagship wine, Renwood Grandpère® Zinfandel comes from the oldest clone of Zinfandel in America dating back to the 1860’s. This unique wine has won worldwide acclaim, as Americas most loved Zinfandel! For more information, visit our website at www.renwood.com Read less

Dripping with juice. Toasty caramel is prominent on the nose. This is a smooth wine on the sweeter side with dominant cherry/strawberry and caramel flavors. Alcohol is nicely in balance. Something about it just makes you want to keep picking up the glass. For $15, just go ahead and try it.

Deep ruby in color, intoxicating aroma of dark berries. The taste is incredible full of rich deep flavor of cassis and a bit of spice. The flavor lingers and aftertastes of coffee and a slight floral taste. This is a bold satisfying wine sure to please many Cab, Malbec and other jam packed wine lovers.

not much of a nose, some pepper and plum, got a weird artificial butter taste at first, heavy body and soft tannins

The color is somewhat lighter than your typical Lodi Zin with a certain amount of opacity. The nose is rich in fruit, with sweet ripe berries intermingled with cherries and plums, balanced by a bit of dusty spice. The taste is surprisingly not as fruit forward as I would have expected, in fact it's like a delayed fuse as the first taste seems to be dominated by smoke, cedar and some spice, then an explosion of fruit midpalate, with rich plum and blackberries, fading into some peppery spice note on the finish. The tannins are pretty big in this wine, supporting a very tight, dry finish. This wine is a bit high in alcohol at 16%, but you'd never know it from the aroma or taste (I suppose that can be a good thing!). WINEMAKER’S NOTES: A fresh and youthful wine featuring strawberry and raspberry fruit aromas with just a hint of oak. The flavors are soft and flavorful with an appealing tang on the finish. This wine reminds us of old time Zinfandel where the fruit is prominent and the wine very honest with great drinkability. This wine is not serious or complicated, and with none of the heavy influence of oak or overzealous cellaring, it is a great sipping wine. VINTAGE: The harvest of 2011 had a cool, wet spring and cool summer providing moderate growing conditions and a crop size small enough to take advantage fo the cool weather. About mid-October a series of storms that usually stay in Washington State and Oregon decided on a not so small excursion to Northern California. These early rains made for a challenging harvest, but the dedication of growers to wait for the grapes to dry out, coupled with the winemaking team going aroud the clock when the weather was good, resulted in some really nice wines. The colors are dark, rivaling the 2010 vintage, flavors are luscious and tannins moderate. - Winery

Dark ruby in color, the bouquet of this wine consists of cranberry, allspice, nutmeg and blackberry. With immediate flavors of ripe berry fruits, holiday spices follow and then lead into chalky tannins and a touch of vanilla bean.

This wine has a nose of exotic spices and dried fruits. This classic old vine character also exhibits notes of lavender. On the palate, full in body and very ripe, the dark fruit on the first taste melds into mildly spicy fruit with a hint of roasted coffee towards the end. Overall, this dusty and bold wine offers ample flavor. - Winery
