Renieri Supertuscan Blend Toscana IGT Invetro 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 Rosso di Montalcino is a gorgeous wine laced with tons of Sangiovese character in its red cherries, dried flowers, licorice and mint. This mid-weight, feminine Rosso delivers notable quality for the money. The firm tannins and bright acidity are all Sangiovese but the delicacy of the fruit recalls Pinot Noir. This is a lovely effort from Renieri.

This Super Tuscan tastes... well, super! The 50% Sangiovese gives the wine bright cherry fruit and vibrant acidity, while the remaining Cabernet and Merlot add rich black fruit and firm tannins. Notes of fig and raisin are prominent, giving a lush complexity to the wine. Excellent with braised meats, or anything out of the slow cooker.

The 2008 Invetro is a ridiculously delicious wine for the money. A blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot from vineyards in Montalcino. The Invetro flows from the glass with layers of dark red fruit, herbs, minerals and spices, all of which come together on a medium-bodied, focused frame of impeccable elegance. This is a very serious wine; in fact it needs at least another year in bottle. Needless to say, it is a screaming value. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016.

The 2009 Invetro is an attractive, mid-weight wine laced with expressive dark fruit, spices, mocha, new leather and licorice. The length and overall sense of harmony compensate for the wine's slightly compact personality. The Invetro is a delicious wine at this level. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.

Winemaker's Notes:A very deep ruby introduces our Rosso di Montalcino, followed on the nose by qualities classic to Montalcino: well-ripened wild red berry fruit predominates, enriched by subtle nua

This fresh Rosso di Montalcino is redolent of pressed violets and rose petals and has more of a floral characteristic than it does a fruity one. The wine is thin but firm in the mouth with a lean but crisp aftertaste.
