Renieri Regina 2004

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

This 'queen' (regina) Syrah boasts aromas of cherry candy, blueberry pie, coffee, leather and smoked meat. You'll pick up cherry cough drop, root beer and licorice midpalate: The mouthfeel is still a bit raw and needs two more years. Wine Enthusiast. A Proprietary Blend wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2004 Renieri; Regina di Renieri Toscano IGT 750ml

Tenuta Renieri comprises just over 300 acres right in the Brunello di Montalcino zone, on slopes that face Monte Amiata. The single Regina Vineyard, where the grapes for this wine are sourced is just 7 acres at high elevation, and it's planted to Syrah which responds incredibly well to the volcanic soils and warm microclimate. Enologist Alberto Antonini crafted just 760 cases of this bold red, keeping yields to a minimum and slow fermenting the densely flavored fruit. The wine was ages 18 months in French Allier oak barrels before extended bottle age, like Brunello. James Suckling of the Wine Spectator scored it 93 points and said "This is massive, with decadent plum, black pepper and meat character. Full-bodied, yet refined and balanced, with layers of flavors and a caressing texture. Syrah. Best after 2009." On SALE!
