Rene Rostaing Cote-Rotie la Landonne 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This is offering a fairly intense array of aromatics from the git go with beef blood, pepper, smoke, creosote and a significant dose of brett. In the mouth this was at first promisingly rich with meaty, cherried fruit but the acidity is to low to offer any lift or persistence to the flavors and the wine seems clumsy and short.

Rene Rostaing:
The Domaine consists of 7.5 hectares spread over 20 plots in Cote-Rotie,Crozes-Hermitage,Condrieu and Languedoc but is based in Ampuis  Cote-Rotie. La Landonne and Cote Blonde are the two top of the range cuvees of Cote-Rotie from specific vineyards but the main cuvee is called 'Classique' or 'Ampodium' and that is made from a blend of grapes from 13 other plots. Rene Rostaing also owns Domaine Peuch in Languedoc

Deep ruby. Black and blue fruits on the nose, complicated by suggestions of smoked meat, apricot pit and violet. Potent blueberry and boysenberry flavors are lifted by tangy acidity and show impressive back-end power. Youthful tannins add grip to ... Stephen Tanzers IWC. Vivid ruby. Intense black and blue fruit aromas are complemented by potpourri, olive and smoky herbs. Broad, palate-staining dark fruit flavors become brighter with air and show an emphatically spicy character. Finishes with excellent clarity and jui... Stephen Tanzers IWC. The 2004 Cote Rotie La Landonne possesses scorched earth roasted meats smoked herbs licorice and sweet black raspberry and cassis flavors that jump from the glass of this deep full-bodied Cote Rotie. The wine is rich has good acidity hints of black olive in the mouth and a long heady finish. It is approachable now but promises to be better in 3-4 years and last for 15 or more.

Silky and long, with very dark cherry, cocoa and game flavors backed by mineral and grilled herb notes. Tight now, with firm cocoa powder and tar notes guarding the finish, but has depth and complexity for the longer haul. Best from 2007 through 2020... Wine Spectator. Inky ruby color. Powerful scents of cherry liqueur, blackberry and grilled meat, with a strong violet element adding lift.
