René Barbier Red Blend Catalunya Mediterranean Red NV
Medium bodied red wine. The nose hints of black currant, plum, earthiness, and maybe a bit of leather? A bit sharp on the palette, with dark fruit flavor, and a bit of beef jerky flavor. A decent wine, but not a favorite.
I have commented on this wine in the past. I still think it is an awesome bargain (US$3.49 at Total Wines and at Cost Plus World Marketplace). An uncomplicated, refreshing wine that still stands up to a hearty meal. We had it with pizza, last night.
OK for the price.
For $3.99 I was not expecting much. I found this and the Mediterranean White on clearance and decided that if nothing else I could use if for cooking. I was shocked to find that I adored the white and the red is more than drinkable. It's not terribly complex, but if you just want an inexpensive wine that you that you can buy in bulk for a party you won't be disappointed.
It's smooth and goes well with greek food!!!
Strong fruity, lingering scent. Would be good with meat dishes in the winter. A yummy fruity aftertaste.
i have never found a Red that I would willingly drink a second time (for my self-politeness is another matter). I saw the price and was like this might be it. So I tried it... and loved it

Cherry, fleshy red fruit flavors and a light, dilute mouthfeel are prefaced by earthy, resiny notes on the nose. Juicy cranberry and plum flavors, plus some wood, round out the short finish. Tasted twice.

Despite an opening that features some vinegary sharpness and mulch, thereandrsquo;s also decent berry fruit notes and milk chocolate sweetness to the nose. Feels about as youandrsquo;d expect, which means itandrsquo;s zesty and lean, with cherry, plum and herbal flavors. Juicy and minty on the finish.
This chewy red shows red fruit, earth and spice notes, with a rustic edge to the firm tannins. The finish is fresh and spicy. Drink now through 2008.
