Medium bodied red wine. The nose hints of black currant, plum, earthiness, and maybe a bit of leather? A bit sharp on the palette, with dark fruit flavor, and a bit of beef jerky flavor. A decent wine, but not a favorite.

I have commented on this wine in the past. I still think it is an awesome bargain (US$3.49 at Total Wines and at Cost Plus World Marketplace). An uncomplicated, refreshing wine that still stands up to a hearty meal. We had it with pizza, last night.

Nose is a bit closed, like a pinot gris, light and grassy. Apricot and pear round it out. The mouth is also mild, slightly buttery, and generally pleasant.

Fruity and fresh on the nose. Medium acidity, striking peach notes. Pears and a little pineapple on the finish

Very rich, sweet nose, lots of fruity flavor: lemon, peach, pineapple. Perfect for a white sangria on a hot day.

René Barbier wines combine that sophisticated packaging with a sophisticated idea — that many people want to drink inexpensive wines which are just simple and good. no pretensions. No big flavor impact. And no big price. Even some of the most sophisticated sommeliers who tasted on our panels, when presented with Mediterranean White at $4.99 a bottle feel compelled to recommend it. It’s clean, crisp and tasty.

Aromas of grapefruit and slate are clean. the palate runs zesty to the point of being spritzy, with pink grapefruit and apricot flavors. Tangy and juicy, and totally uncomplicated. A picnic wine in every sense.

This chewy red shows red fruit, earth and spice notes, with a rustic edge to the firm tannins. The finish is fresh and spicy. Drink now through 2008.
