Renato Ratti Nebbiolo Nebbiolo d'Alba Ochetti 2008
Winemaker's Notes:
A slightly faded ruby red. Fine, delicate and persistent bouquet with characteristic trace scents of strawberry and raspberry. Pleasantly bitter, velvety, at once elegant and full. Food Pairings: Red meats, grilled or on the spit, stewed dishes in white or brown sauces; local cheeses, such as: Robiola, Caprini, Mascarpone and Fontina.

Half way up the hill overlooking the main Barolo valley, along the first spurs of the neatly aligned vineyards, lies the Abbey of the Annunziata (Our Lady of the Annunciation), a priceless jewel of the 15th Century. Just as the good friars of centuries past produced wines from the grapes grown along the hollow below their abbey, a position of glory and grandeur, today, faithful to their same timeless wisdom, wines of incomparable quality are produced.

Add your reviewIt drinks young, the wine stayed tight even after having opened it for 1/2 an hour. It had a wonderful balance of fragant red fruit, herbs and leathery tannins. A smooth and supple finish. This is an excellent value wine that drinks like a more expensive bottle. Bring this med. body wine to your next dinner party, it is very approachable, an easy crowd pleaser.

Nebbiolo d'Alba is an ancient wine from the Roero District. Ratti’s Nebbiolo D’Alba is sourced from the single Occhetti vineyard on the sandy hills situated above the left bank of the Tanaro River. Densely planted 30 year old vines yield deeply flavored, concentrated fruit which is carefully destemmed, crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation the wine is aged one year in oak barrels. Wine Spectator said of this 2008 “offers lovely richness and depth in its juicy red cherries, flowers and French oak. This is a soft, approachable wine meant to be enjoyed over the next few years.
