Renato Ratti:
Half way up the hill overlooking the main Barolo valley, along the first spurs of the neatly aligned vineyards, lies the Abbey of the Annunziata (Our Lady of the Annunciation), a priceless jewel of the 15th Century. Just as the good friars of centuries past produced wines from the grapes grown along the hollow below their abbey, a position of glory and grandeur, today, faithful to their same timeless wisdom, wines of incomparable quality are produced.

Bright cherries on the nose. Very smooth and light, predominantly cherries and red fruit with a hint of red licorice & herbs. Soft tannins and a bright finish.

The 2006 was on the Wine Spectator's 2009 Top 10 Wines of the Year and the 2006 was the #1 Wine of the Year for 2010 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine! A single vineyard, small production Barolo from one of Piedmont's best boutique producers. Renato Ratti has conducted an extensive study of the soils, geography and production of vineyards throughout the area and mapped out individual plots for best quality potential. The Marcenasco vineyard is in the La Morra region, known for its fragrant, elegant wines. 2007 was another incredible year in Piedmont so we expect this wine to garner similar accolades to the 2006. Grab it now before someone names it Wine of the Year and it's all gone!

Sweet cherry and plum flavors pick up a hint of licorice as this gains grip. The finish shuts down as the dense tannins take over. Though not that complex right now, this red is bright and long, with a mineral finish. Be patient. Best from 2015 throu... Wine Spectator. (aged in large barrels, 30% new): Good full red. Perfumed, pure nose offers cherry, rose petal, tar, underbrush and licorice. Suave and seamless on the palate, with ripe acidity energizing the flavors of dark cherry, spices and tar. Finishes very... Stephen Tanzers IWC. The balance is there, yet this needs time to come together. Best from 2015 through 2030". Limited

Noble and generous, glory of old Piedmont, a wine suitable for long aging, Barolo is the absolute master of the table. It conquers the palate with the conviction of strength, harmony and fullness and holds its sway at length.

The 2007 Barolo Marcenasco is deeply impressive in this vintage. It shows great intensity and roundness in a style that captures the essence of the year. Dark fruit, flowers, spices and minerals wrap around the powerful, supple finish. This is a fabu... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
