Renato Ratti Barolo Rocche 2007
"I really like the layered character of this wine, which shows velvety tannins and complex fruit and spices on the palate. Full and delicious. Give it time to come together, even though its so wonderful already...94." JS 1/11 "The 2007 Barolo Rocche is also a huge wine for this site. Layers of dark fruit, spices, menthol and mocha explode from the glass in this large-scaled, expansive Barolo. The Rocche shows marvelous intensity and seamless power from start to finish. Silky, polished tannins frame the dramatic, sweeping finish. The intensity of the mid-palate tapers off just a touch on the close, but that may be a function of the wine’s youth. If the finish fleshes out, the Rocche could very well merit a higher score in the future. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027...93+." WA 10/11
Half way up the hill overlooking the main Barolo valley, along the first spurs of the neatly aligned vineyards, lies the Abbey of the Annunziata (Our Lady of the Annunciation), a priceless jewel of the 15th Century. Just as the good friars of centuries past produced wines from the grapes grown along the hollow below their abbey, a position of glory and grandeur, today, faithful to their same timeless wisdom, wines of incomparable quality are produced.

Sweet cherry and plum flavors pick up a hint of licorice as this gains grip. The finish shuts down as the dense tannins take over. Though not that complex right now, this red is bright and long, with a mineral finish. Be patient. Best from 2015 throu... Wine Spectator.
