External Reviews for Remy Pannier Cabernet Franc Chinon
Chinon 2011 - 86 points, Wine Enthusiast/ Stalky and aromatic, the wine is cool, full of red fruits with an herbaceous edge. Berry fruits are laced with tight acidity and a mineral character, backed up by chewy tannins.
/ Grassy and tobacco aromas combine with a palate that is lean and somewhat astringent, with red berry flavors and a smoky aftertaste.
Chinon 2010 - Recommended, iSantemagazine.com/ Herbacious aromas of cooking spice, with red and black fruit notes, and a touch of black pepper. Smooth and subtle on the palate, offering cooked raspberry and currant fruit, with a note of stone and earthiness. Balanced finish.
You Don't Say.../ A delicious stand-in for pricey pinot noir, this light red is made from the cabernet franc grape, and its acidity makes it a great match for seafood. You'll sound like a French aristocrat ordering it.
Remy Pannier has been identified with premium quality Loire Valley wines since 1885, when it was founded by Francois Rémy. In 1956, Remy Pannier decided to partner with Maison Ackerman, the pioneer of Loire sparkling wine production. Ackerman then passed the company down to his son, Louis Ackerman, who kept the tradition of fine winemaking in the family for generations. Over the years, Remy Pannier has developed strong working relationships with over 800 growers throughout the Loire Valley. Working closely with these affiliated growers, Remy Pannier provides advice on the latest viticultural practices to ensure production of the finest quality grapes. Remy Pannier has built three state-of-the-art wineries in the premier Loire Valley wine districts of Anjou, Touraine and the Pays Nantais where all their Loire Valley wines are vinified. Remy Pannier’s attractive packaging reflects over a century of tradition and experience in Loire Valley winemaking. Production Area Loire Valley, France The ancient town of Chinon dates back to Roman times. The designated vineyard area covers 3,250 acres between the Loire and Vienne Rivers. Vines grown on the hillsides and isolated Turonian chalk hillocks (yellow limestone) and also on the plateaux and hillocks mainly consisting of flintclay and sands (Senonian). Grape Varieties 100% Cabernet Franc Vinification The grapes start their maceration after passing through a destemmer. Fermentation lasts from 15 to 30 days in stainless steel tanks with regular remontage (punching of the cap). Malolactic fermentation follows. The wine is aged 7 to 12 months before bottling. Color Intense ruby to deep purple color Bouquet Distinctive aromas of violets and black fruit Taste Silky, elegant and refined, with soft, fruity, pleasing notes of raspberries and spice; medium-bodied Alcohol 12% Serving Suggestions This Chinon is delicious with white meat, grilled red meat, turkey and a range of hard cheeses such as cheddar, swiss and gouda.
Where Cab Franc Shines/ Dark garnet. Red berries and a whiff of red-clay earthiness. More subtle than fruit-forward, raspberries and white pepper, tart acidity and soft, smooth tannins. Good young Chinon, enjoyable and interesting now. I like to match the earthy fruit of Loire Cabernet Franc against the mixed flavors of Asian fare. This one made a fine match with a lightly spicy pork-and-bean-curd West China standard, Ma Po tofu. More traditionally, it’s a versatile match with poultry, pork, lighter red meats, and a range of cheeses. In the age of the strong Euro, value doesn’t get much better than the lower tends for excellent young Chinon like this.
Chinon 2007 - 88 Points & Best Buy, Wine & Spirits/ This shows a gravelly note under the light, taut fruit flavors, fresh and harmoniously balanced.
