Regusci Cab ' 2006

Member Review by muledaddy:

I was looking forward to tasting this wine as I am a huge James Cole fan (for which Jim Regusci is the vine steward). Formerly, this winery was by appointment only, but policy has changed. This wine was a bit young at my tasting (6/2010) and could use a little time in the cellar. Hints of mineral with the fruit was somewhat unexpected in this region, but not unpleasant. Moderate to full body with pronounced tanins. While I prefer this wine to Chimney Rock (also in the Stag's Leap District), I prefer Provenance at this price range.

Very few of these Ghost Wineries remain as the vineyards of most Napa Valley wineries were decimated by the phylloxera infestation of the 1890's. The economic depression of that decade was the final blow for many others. As a result, most of these wineries were abandoned or forced into bankruptcy and then laid dormant through prohibition. Over the years that followed, many fell into disrepair and were dismantled or absorbed into newer, more modern facilities. One example of a fantastically preserved Ghost Winery is located on the Regusci Ranch - the T.L. Grigsby-Occidental Winery. Read less
