Over 100 years ago our Redmon barn was home to one of Napa’s earliest wineries. First established in 1899, our red Redmon barn was constructed with redwood timbers and a classic tin roof. Constructed by two German immigrants to Napa Valley, this barn was home to making wine for almost 20 years. Still to this day are the remnants of the old rail tracks running down the middle of the winery are thin gauge railroad tracks where push carts we used to move the fruit and barrels in and out. This continued until 1920 until Prohibition. For 13 years, wine production was at a standstill. Then in 1933 and the repeal of Prohibition, the doors opened again and the fruit arrived. This time, Redmon barn was used for fermentation of a different style – spirits! That’s right. The old Ghost Winery was used to distill spirits made from the many orchards and fruit crops that sprang up during the years of Prohibition. This continued for another 15 to 22 years before the winery fell into disrepair. The property then changed hand a few times until the beginning of the new millennium. In 2002 Redmon acquired the property and got to work. The lot included an old blacksmith shop, migrant worker housing, and a home that belonged to Sunny Saint Helena Winery (known now as Merryvale Winery). Today we are working hard to bring back the beauty and history of the fantastic piece of history. Read less
