Redheads Studios Nobs & Snobs Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon Clare Valley 2016

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Notes: From Australia’s exciting RedHeads studio, this intense, gold-medal blockbuster comes with a great story … It all started nearly 20 years ago, with elite winemakers ‘moonlighting’ in a makeshift winery (formerly an Indian restaurant). By day, they made big volumes for well-known brands, knowing the wines could be improved, if it wasn’t for shareholders demanding 10,000+ cases. By night, they brought handfuls of grapes to practice their craft at RedHeads, where top quality in the bottle is the only ‘bottom line.’ And the acclaim soon followed … “Must be tasted to be believed,” said top critic Robert Parker of Viottolo Sentiero, one of the very first RedHeads wines. “A taste of the product indicates that this operation is as serious as a heart attack,” raved Master of Wine Jancis Robinson. These days, RedHeads wines sell for upwards of $75 a bottle, with 90+ Parker points among their many honors. We get first dibs on their range – and this insider’s gold medalist is a real treat. Inspired by a historic land dispute between nobles and commoners (aka sans noblesse), Nobs and Snobs brings together two great red grapes: noble Cabernet and bold Malbec. The fruit was sourced from famed grower Richard Hughes’ vineyards in Australia’s premium Clare Valley, where cooler temperatures and high altitude combined to produce a luscious, elegant red with concentrated plum and blackberry flavors. One year in top-notch French and American oak barrels imparted toasty spice notes and the structured tannins that make this a perfect match for juicy steak or a traditional Aussie meat pie. Boasting its very first gold medal (of what promises to be many) from the China Wine & Spirits Awards, Nobs and Snobs will be a winner with big reds lovers too. Alcohol: 14.5%
