Think all Australian wines are big, simple fruit-bombs, slathered with new oak? The kind of wines youandrsquo;ll drink but not respect in the morning? The Hundred Tree Hill 2004 Cabernet (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc) is out to change your mind. Featuring complex, gorgeous aromas of black cherry, currant, black tea, anise, tobacco and cedar, this beauty is complemented by an utterly silky texture and unencumbered by its modest 13.5% alcohol. This wine manages incredible grace and class in a full-bodied frame. Fans of Bordeaux andmdash; this is an Australian wine with which you can form a lasting relationship.

Dark red. Pungent, old-school bouquet of red currant, dried cherry, cigar box and fresh rose. Smoky red fruit flavors deliver solid punch but turn a bit dry on the back. This light-bodied wine offers good complexity and sweetness, but my enthusiasm was limited by that twinge of dryness.
