Redbank Winery Red Blend Pyrenees Sally's Paddock 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

2002 was an exceptional vintage year for Victoria, particularly the King and Ovens Valleys. Extended cool, dry ripening conditions and naturally low crops resulted in concentrated fruit flavours. Fruit for The Fugitive has been primarily sourced from high altitude vineyards in the King Valley and blended with a small portion of warmer Ovens Valley fruit which adds richness and complexity. The Fugitive Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 is a deep red colour with vibrant purple hues and a rich, lifted nose of blackcurrants, integrated French oak and touches of mint and eucalyptus. It carries the classical fine structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, red and black berry fruit on the palate, with integrated toasted, vanilla oak. Eighteen months maturation in new French oak barriques andhogsheads and a mixture of one- and two-year-old French and American barrels results in a sophisticated and integrated wine.

Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, reminds us of times gone by when our early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. This strength was apparent in the hard working migrants who established a thriving farming community in the rugged High Country of North East Victoria. Redbank Snowy VinesToday a small, select "family" of growers, some direct descendents of the original pioneers, produce premium fruit for the wines of Redbank. Vineyards that are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines.
