Red Lava Vineyards Syrah Lake County Reserve 2005

External Review:

The promise is there in this ripe, plush wine, with its rich tannins and good acidity. It's rewarding in herb-tinged blackberry jam, plum, violet, coffee and chocolate flavors, with a distinct white pepper edge. As good as it is, the next step is to build in extra layers of complexity.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Aromas of white flowers and newly mown grass accompany blackberry and currant flavors in this sturdy Northern California red. Distinctive mineral elements from its unique volcanic terroir set this apart, as well as a new lower price that makes this wine half the price of equivalent California efforts.
